FAQ
How long does a design project typically take?
Each project will require its own timeline depending on the level of complexity. A project that predominantly involves decorating generally takes about 3 months from start to finish. Renovation projects, such as a kitchen or bathroom, can take longer. Keep in mind that any custom ordered products, from upholstery to kitchen cabinetry, generally take 8 to 12 weeks for delivery before they can be installed. European products often take longer.
Why should I hire a designer?
We do all the research and sourcing work for you, which saves you time and allows you to focus on other things. We narrow down the chaos of choice and can point you in the right direction for the things that you are looking for. Our years of experience allow us to efficiently space plan, manage trades and suppliers, and ultimately interpret your personal design vision into a reality. We can also help you avoid costly mistakes that don’t work for your space.
How do I estimate a budget for my project?
Each and every space will have a different budget, depending on the scope of the project and the client’s wish list. Therefore it’s impossible to estimate a general price for renovation or design jobs. We do, however, need you to have an idea of how much you want to spend. So, if you already have specific items in mind, such as certain appliances, furniture pieces or a particular wallpaper, we recommend that you get the prices of those items in advance and factor that into your budget. And of course, estimate some contingency for the unexpected.
Will I get to see mood or atmosphere boards before my project starts?
Mood boards or atmosphere boards, from a simple, digitally produced assembly of images to a 3D board containing actual finish and material samples, can be provided for any project, but they are not considered a standard due to the immense amount of time it can take to create them. Based on the complexity of your project, we may recommend them and give you an estimate on the costs involved to produce them.
What are CAD drawings and will I need them?
CAD, or computer automated drawings, are an integral part of the design process. As designers, they help us plan everything from the layout of shower tile to the placement of all your furnishings. They allow us to have one master plan that can then be easily communicated to the contractors and all trades. Different projects require different levels of drawings and this will be determined once we have decided the scope of your project.
Do you supply the tradespeople for my project?
We have a full roster of contractors and tradespeople that we will connect you with. Depending on the size of your project, we will recommend people that make the most sense for your job. We have trusted relationships with everyone that we recommend. You are free at any time to suggest your own tradespeople, but we take no responsibility for their quality of work or professionalism.
